In honour of Schönbrunn
Vienna gave the world the coffee house. Royal Sense is our tribute to that culture, and to Schönbrunn, the imperial summer palace an hour from our roastery.
I1683: the beans left behind
The story the Viennese love to tell: after the Ottoman siege of Vienna in 1683, sacks of strange beans were left behind, and a few clever people learned to roast them. The first coffee houses opened soon after. Legend or history, by the 1800s the coffee house was a Viennese institution, and today UNESCO lists Viennese coffee-house culture as intangible cultural heritage.
IISchönbrunn
Schönbrunn Palace, summer residence of the Habsburgs with its 1,441 rooms, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996. Empress Maria Theresa lived there, and so did Empress Elisabeth, "Sisi". The crown, the damask pattern and the palace drawing on the bag are our homage: Royal Sense is roasted in Austria in honour of Schönbrunn.
IIIThe Viennese way to drink it
In Vienna coffee comes on a small silver tray with a glass of water. A Melange: espresso with steamed milk and foam. An Einspänner: strong black coffee under whipped cream, in a glass. A Kleiner Brauner: espresso with a dash of cream. Royal Sense is roasted for exactly these: deep enough to carry milk and cream, smooth enough to drink black.
